2013 Winners
The winners of the 2nd “Miners and Mines of Russia” competition for amateur photographers were announced on 3 October at the closing ceremony of MINEX Russia Mining and Exploration Forum in Moscow. The works of 31 competition finalists were presented during the Forum on 2-3 October. The works of 5 winners and 5 finalists who received the highest scores were selected for the Amur Children Charity Auction organised during the Forum’s Gala Dinner. Raised funds will be used by The Petropavlovsk Foundation to repair schools in the Amur region and EAO affected by the flooding.

2013 Finalists
Miners and Mines of Russia – 2nd Amateur photo competition
MINEX Russia 2013 forum organisers are very grateful to all amateur photographers who submitted their work to participate in the 2nd Photo competition “Miners and Mines of Russia 2013″.
The competition jury selected works for the final stage of photo contest and is delighted to announce the beginning of online voting to determine the five winners of the photo competition (only one winner for each category).
The photo competition themes:
· “My Mine” – Industrial Landscape
· “Mining machinery and technologies” – Industrial composition
· “Caring for the environment” – Industrial landscape or composition
· “Ores and Minerals” – Free genre composition
· “Proud to be Miner” – Individual or group portrait
The finalists’ photos will be displayed at the MINEX Expo Hall on 2-3 October 2013 in Radisson Slavyanskaya Hotel, Moscow.
The winners will be presented with valuable prizes at the end of the Forum on 3 October 2013.
Determination of the winners will be organised through the auction, all proceeds will be used to restore damaged by Amur River child care centres in Amur region and EAO Autonomous regions.
The auction of the photographic prints submitted for the Russian Mining 2013 Second International Amateur Photography Competition is being held with the assistance of The Petropavlovsk Foundation.
The Organising Committee of MINEX Russia 2013 Forum invite Forum participants and the Russian mining community to support an initiative to help schools and kindergartens in the Amur region and EAO affected by the recent flooding.

The Auction

Bids will be accepted from private individuals or corporates.

Place your maximum bid (bids are not disclosed). The minimum bid is 10 000 Roubles. Prices offered by other participants are not being announced.

Biding will end close of business on 25 September 2013. The highest bidder will receive payment instructions from The Petropavlovsk Foundation and will be required to pay within 2 working days. If for any reason the winning bidder fails to pay, the work will be transferred to the next highest bidder.

The highest bidders will be presented with their purchased works at the MINEX Russian Mining Excellence Awards Gala Dinner, which will be held in Moscow on 3 October 2013.

About
The competition aims to provide an opportunity for amateur photographers who work in the mining industry in Russia to present their views of the Russia’s miners and mines through the photo images.
Goals and objectives of the competition

Presentation of the wealth of Russian mineral resources as seen through the photo cameras of people working in the mining industry in Russia;

Creating objective image of Russian mining industry for present and future generations of miners;
-
Providing an opportunity for mining companies and organisations to participate in a unique social project aimed at promoting mining profession and development of a unique platform where amateur photographers working in mining industry can express themselves;

Creation of the national Internet-based Photo Club devoted to mining and geological amateur photography in Russia.

Conditions of participation in the competition
-
The Competition is open to the amateur photographers employed by the Russian or international companies operating in the mining sector in the Russian Federation;
-
To participate in the Competition an application must be submitted to the Competition Organising Committee. Please download the application form.
-
When required, photographers must seek company’s approval when submitting photographs of the mines and facilities operated by their mining company before entering the competition.
-
Only works that have passed the preliminary selection and approval by the organising committee will be accepted for participation in the Competition.
-
Applicant can submit photographs for participation in several Competition categories.
-
Applicant can submit no more than 5 (five) photographs.
-
No more than 10 (ten) photographers from the same company can take part in the Competition;
-
The maximum amount of photographs submitted to the competition – 100.
-
Photographs must be submitted royalty free. Applicants agree that the Competition organisers can use the photographs free of charge for producing media articles, announcements, press releases, as well as for artwork of printed and online products for MINEX Forum. All photographs, when possible will bear an indication of authorship.

The evaluation criteria
The photographs submitted for the Competition must meet at least one of the competition criteria:

Comply with the Competition themes;
-
Originality;
-
Photo quality (focus, the balance of light and shade, composition, etc.);
-
Original content.
Competition procedure
-
The Competition is held in two stages.
-
First stage of the Competition: the Photographs will be posted on the Competition Website. Pre-registered users are able to vote for the posted photographs.
-
Representatives of Russian and international mining industry are allowed to vote.
-
One user may vote for the same photo once, re-votes are not counted.
-
Second stage of the Competition: the nominated works are evaluated by a competent Jury.
-
The winners of the Competition will be decided for each nominated category (1, 2, 3rd place)
-
Organising Committee and the Jury can make a decision to award a special prize presented by the Competition partners and sponsors of which the contestants will be informed.

The works of the finalists will be presented at the winners will be announced at the ”MINEX Russia”, which will be held from 2 to 3 October 2013 at the Radisson Slavyanskaya Hotel in Moscow. The works of the finalists may also be published in the media reports and articles published after the forum by its Information and Media partners.

The list of Competition winners will be published on the MINEX Forum websites.
